Junior Faculty Co-Director for Center for Community Health Equity Summer Internship

In Summer 2018 (June to August), the Center for Community Health Equity will be piloting a Summer Internship for 4 college students between their junior and senior year who grew up on the West Side and had prior relationships with Rush University Medical Center through the SAME Network. The Internship will be 8 weeks and 40 hours. It will include self-directed learning about health equity with a focus in Chicago, didactic learning through lecture series, community exploration, personal reflection, a group dissemination project, and an individual research project.
We are requesting applications for junior faculty to be a Co-Director of the Center for Community Health Equity Summer Internship.

Working with Raj C. Shah, Co-Director of the Center for Community Health Equity, and Nia Benton, coordinator for the Summer Internship, the junior faculty co-Director of the Summer Internship will be a key faculty liaison for mentoring internship experience in charge of the scientific mentorship of the Interns and curriculum development and implementation. A significant focus will be on being available to mentor the students in completing individual projects from a theme, to a question of inquiry, to a literature review, to a protocol development, to data collection, to data analysis, and to data presentation over the course of 8 weeks.

Interest in health equity in their academic careers along with experience in mentoring students through research activities involving the community is desired. Mixed methods capabilities (quantitative and qualitative) is desired.

About 40% effort will be needed during the eight-weeks in the summer to adequately engage with the interns. Compensation also will include pre-planning and closing evaluations and be approximately $25,000.
